What standards should swabs meet?

The sampling swab directly touches the sampling part when sampling, that is, directly touches our human organs. The raw materials of the sampling head are closely related to the subsequent detection.
The sampling swab head should be made of PE synthetic fiber, polyester fiber, polypropylene fiber, man-made fiber and other synthetic fibers.
The sampling swab head must not use calcium alginate sponge or stick swab (including bamboo swab), and the swab head data can not be used for cotton products. Because the cotton fiber has strong adsorption on protein, it is not easy to elute into the subsequent preservation solution; while the swab containing calcium alginate and stick swab or bamboo swab broken and soaked in the preservation solution will also adsorb protein, and even affect the subsequent PCR The reaction was inhibited.

Synthetic fibers such as PE fiber, polyester fiber and polypropylene fiber are recommended for making swabs.

Cotton and other natural fibers are not recommended, and nylon fiber is not recommended. Because nylon fiber may have poor water absorption, resulting in the lack of sampling volume, which affects the detection rate.

There are two kinds of swab handle: broken type and built-in type.
After sampling, the broken swab is put into the preservation tube, and the tube cover can be tightened after it is broken near the head.

The built-in swab can directly put the sampling swab into the preservation tube after sampling, and then align the hole in the tube cover of the preservation tube with the top of the handle and screw the tube cover tightly.

Compared with the two methods, the latter is relatively safe. When using the small-scale storage tube together, the broken swab may cause the liquid splashing outside the tube. We should pay full attention to the possible pollution risk caused by improper use of the product.
No matter what kind of materials are used, no calcium alginate additives can be added; no mallet or bamboo stick is recommended.
