Nasopharyngeal swabs are mainly used for influenza, swine influenza, avian influenza, hand, foot, mouth and other respiratory tract and enterovirus nose and throat sampling.
Using a nasopharyngeal swab, Notes Mareklin, be aware of the following implementations.

1. Sampling objects should be within 3 days of onset and fever ≥38℃;

2. The sampling solution should be placed in a freezer (ice drain) and brought to the sampling site.

3. The capacity of the sampling tube should be about 10ml, which should not be too large, so as not to affect the later processing of the specimen.

4. Plastic tubes should be used to prevent accidents during transportation;

5. The rod of nasopharyngeal swab should be lengthened to facilitate the use of sampling;

6. The head of the nasopharyngeal swab should be as small as possible to avoid discomfort to the patient's nose during sampling;

7. The liquid in the sampling tube should not be more than 4ml, so as not to affect the sample concentration;

8. If necessary, two nasopharyngeal swabs can be collected as parallel samples;

9. Collected specimens should be immediately put in a refrigerator at 4℃ (if there is no refrigerator on site, they can be put in a refrigerator box immediately) and transported to the laboratory within 24 hours in a refrigerator box for testing (at the same time, a detailed sample registration form should be attached).
If it cannot be delivered within 24 hours, it shall be stored below -70℃.

10. In case of pneumonia of unknown cause, tracheal extracts can be collected.
